It's been introduced to the House but there is no posting yet to tell us the bill number.
A ban on all mags holding more than 10 rounds.

Read the "justification" for it here:
http://degette.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1234:reps-degette-and-mccarthy-introduce-bill-to-ban-high-capacity-assault-magazines&catid=76:press-releases-&Itemid=227

Because it is in the GOP controlled house, it can be tabled indefinitely in committee and never get to the floor for a vote.

I suggest you contact not only your representative
(http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/)

but more importantly Rep. Bob Goodlatte, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee
(http://goodlatte.house.gov/) - click on "Contact Bob" in the upper right corner and when filling out the e-mail form use the following zip code: 24401.

You can also contact Speaker Boehner at http://www.speaker.gov/contact

Here's the wording I used:

I write to urge the defeat of legislation introduced on the first day of the 113th Congress by Diana DeGette, D-Colo and Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y. titled, "High Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act."

This legislation needs to be tabled indefinitely or soundly voted down. On this issue you must be a statesman and refuse to compromise the Bill of Rights, specifically our rights under the Second Amendment. A prohibition against magazines holding more than 10 rounds will have zero effect in stopping spree shootings. Grandfathering does not make a high capacity magazine ban acceptable. I do not wish to see my kids and grandkids without access to magazines needed to ensure they can defend themselves and their families against criminals, in civil unrest scenarios and, heaven forbid, the possibility of a tyrannical government as envisioned by the founding fathers.

Thank you for standing strong on this issue and not caving to political expediency.

Granted I'm all for everyone contacting all parties involved but doesn't she introduce this same bill every year?

Based on what I reading on other boards, there is a real danger that the politicians will pass this one because "it is not a gun ban" and it sounds like some sort of compromise. They love compromises and looking like they are doing something. Hope I'm wrong but IMO we can't afford to be inactive and assume that we don't need to do anything.

Lots of media pressure and emotion is pushing for a ban. Shooting victim, U.S. Rep Gabby Gifford will meet with Newtown victim's families today and the press will be there:
In a posting on her Facebook account the day of the Newtown shooting, Gifford shared this from her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly.

"As we mourn, we must sound a call for our leaders to stand up and do what is right. This time our response must consist of more than regret, sorrow, and condolence. The children of Sandy Hook Elementary School and all victims of gun violence deserve leaders who have the courage to participate in a meaningful discussion about our gun laws - and how they can be reformed and better enforced to prevent gun violence and death in America. This can no longer wait."

I am so sick of the media only mentioning Gifford when they talk about that shooting. She wasn't the only one but to the media and the politicians she is. If I were among the victims I would really be pissed that I never got mentioned. Who gives a crap that she got hit. She is ok and alive. So shut you freakin mouth woman. She sickens me as bad as feinstein and brady and all the other idiots that don't know their rear from a hole in the ground.

TCummings, I don't have to worry about the barrel shroud argument. Mine was removed at birth. As for the bill, I'd like to see them take the ones that are already out there. There is a reason why they dropped the previous ban. The items are already out there. And if not, can be made by the individual, and it doesn't change anything. I'm not worried. I know how to make dies, and I have a press. If I wanted a magazine, I'd just make it.
