Ok, so I have a very good chance of getting to go Hog Hunting for the first time here pretty soon. I don't really have "hunting" rifles....I intend to use my AR....is it practical...is it effective? Also, I don't have it scoped....I do have a reflex sight on it. Should I look at getting it scoped? I'm a total newb at hog hunting...did lots of bird, rabbit and squirrel hunting has a kid....its been a long time. Looking forward to it.

I myself have never been hog hunting but I have a friend that used everything from a .22 mag to a 30-06 but he mainly uses an ar15 with iron sights and he has no problems with it, I used to use an ar15 to deer hunt with and if it will kill a deer with 1 shot at 250 yards then you should have no issues taking a pig with one.

If you are hunting in heavy cover, the scope will just get in your way. Most of your shots will be quick, short range shots.

Tip: If you can, stand behind a tree for your first shot. It helps protect you from getting your legs taken out from under you when the hogs flush like a covey of Quail
