Neat idea..
I have used a knife for years Poke into the middle and push down as you are applying force to cut towards the outside of the can.
Do this and make an X cut through the lid...then bend up the pieces and pour the goods out.
No flimsy knives here...a slip etc could cut you..
In the many cans i have opened that way i never got cut...Vietnam Vet showed me how.
But the rock is cool..
You could periodically clean off the sanded rock and metal bits.
I would think when liquid started to wet the rock you are almost there.
