SMS, the HIP has to be obtained and completed prior to going out after migratory birds. I believe it surveys your harvest for the year before. All I know for sure is that you must have one in possesion while hunting dove-birds.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying...so having a lifetime license can't exempt you from that requirement, like APeterson is claiming. I think he's confusing that with the Legacy permit like dennis said.

Sorry it was a bit early for me. I read what you said as in "advance before hunting" not "advance as in lifetime license." In other words I agree with you.

HIP permit not needed if hunting on your own land. But, if I'm reading correctly, you're supposed to carry proof of exemption. That might be difficult in some circumstances. The landowners I hunt on just get the free HIP and then they're covered anyway. How does one prove that you are the landowner without carrying around legal documents?

He is probably thinking of the hunting days on Saturday and Sunday when a hunting license and hip permit were not required.

It's a great time to introduce somebody to hunting without any hassles.

Call it what you want, no skin off my back. That's what i did as a kid with my family. That's how I was brought up and now I'm doing the right thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one on here thats been that way.

Thanks for the help by the way.
