I'll be looking for a .22 military trainer at Wanenmachers this year. How about you?

You might look for a BSA Cadet. It's a smaller Martini-Henry action; all the ones I've seen have been in .22 (though they were supposed to have been made in other calibers) with heavy barrels and target sights.

Great minds think alike my friend,,, :thumb:
I bought my 452 Trainer about two years ago.

It is absolutely my most precise rimfire shooter,,,
Followed very closely by a venerable Mossberg 340-KC.

Hands down it's my prettiest rifle though.

It's strange though,,,
I enjoy shooting it so much more,,,
Since I ordered a single-shot adapter for it.

A fellow Okie?

Stillwater here.

I've seen those BSA Cadets around,,,
One of the gentlemen at my rifle & Pistol club has one,,,
If I owned one of those I would have to buy a red coat and learn all the words to "Men of Harlech"

Thanks for the suggestion my friend.

I've got the bug to own a military training rifle in .22 LR,,,
And this year when Wanenmachers in Tulsa comes around,,,
I just might have enough money socked away to purchase one.

I would like some help though,,,
Here are the rimfire training rifles I know about:
  • British Enfield
  • Polish WZ-48
  • German Mauser DSM 34
  • German Mauser KKW
  • Norinco K-98 Mauser copy
  • Springfield 1922
  • MAS 45

What else is out there?

If any of you good folk have any pics and descriptions of military style trainiers,,,
Please post them so I can maybe add them to my look-for list.

So, what are you going to be looking for this year?

So, after some severe sticker shock,,,
I think I must re-think my desire for a Mauser KKW.

I would love to own one of these rifles,,,
My personal passion is collecting matching guns,,,
In .22 rimfire and whatever centerfire cartridge they came in.

As of now I have 12 handgun pairs and 2 rifle pairs.

The KKW trainer would be the perfect match for my K-98 8mm Mauser,,,
It's the rifle my great uncle brought back from Europe.

But I've been researching the current prices,,,
I'm finding that the KKW has been going for $1,100 to $1,300,,,
I'm not sure I can make myself sign that large a check for a collectable rifle.

As of this last paycheck I do have $1,100 socked away,,,
I'll have $1,250 by the time Wannenmacher's comes to town,,,
It's five weeks before the gun show and I'm starting to get a case of cold feet.

When I first started this thread,,,
I was very uninformed as to the prices they get,,,
It was in my mind that I could purchase one in shooter quality for under $500.

I think I had mistaken the Military KKW for the post-war commercial Mausers,,,
I am certain I can find a MAS 45 for somewhere around that price,,,
But it's not even close in looks so it doesn't suit me.

My thinking is now more in line with a Polish WZ-48,,,
I have a handle on a shooter grade specimen for a bit over $200,,,
If I want a matched pair I should be able to get a Polish M44 for another $300 to $400.

I'm still anxious about the big show in November,,,
And I'll have the money with me just in case I find a bargain,,,
But the reality of the situation is that I just can't justify a $1,200 .22 rifle.

No matter how cool it would be to own it.

Thanks for the posts and pictures my friends,,,
If nothing else they brought me back to a grounded state.
