I've got a P3AT, BIL has the LCP, it appears to be the same gun to me.....

My P3AT had to go back to KelTec as it was failing to fire, I've had no issues since.

How do the two match up? Has anyone fired them both? The Ruger seems to have a better reputation in general. Does this hold true with their pocket pistols?

I've fired neither but I've held both. I'd take the LCP over the P3AT. In the future I'll probably get an LCP. I dig that Kel-Tec are so cheap, and are darn good for the money, but I don't want to have to do a "fluff and buff" on a brand new gun. I'm of the opinion that guns should come out of the factory ready to rock. And to their credit I hear it's not all guns that need the F&B. And I've personally never owned one, so my critique is as good as a gun that doesn't work.

F&B aside, I hear that save for their respective extractors they're darn near the same gun. I suppose it just comes down to which is more comfortable in your hands.

I have a gen 1 PTA3 and love it. It hasn't been a problem with it except the pin backing out which they fixed. In fact I lost the ejector right off the bat not knowing it slide right out if not careful. I can tell you I called them and they sent 3 of each for free. I'm impressed with KelTec they're just like Henery they have a no crap warrenty.

Really any of these little guns should be shot and cleaned on a regular basis so you know they're good to go. They aren't target pistols but I shot a mag or 2 a month though mine.

Ruger's are good guns but the politics they bring pisses me off sometimes. Really I'm sure either gun is fine.

Is she a newbie to guns? This isn't a gun you'd get for a first gun IMO. Seat time is important in learning to shoot right and your girp on theses guns isn't how you want to learn how to shoot much less you just don't go to the range and shoot these gun a few hundred rounds.

Greetings all...I have recently purchased a Kel Tec PF9, and also recently had the chance to fire the Ruger LCP, and in my opinion, I prefer the PF9. I will admit the PF9 has a little punch, but the added surface area makes it very bearable to shoot. I am now going to take action on removing some of the rough edges, but over all, I am very happy with my purchase. The LCP left my trigger finger sore and red, but the PF9 also left a little reminder near my thumb that rough edges suck too. Fits nicely in my front right pocket, and once I have a good pocket holster, I am sure it will be there all the time whether I am on the street walking, driving, or even riding my motorcycle with no issues of it digging in where it should not be.
