I use universal, but it sucks for 38 IMO. It works, but it leaves a lot of burnt flakes. I've also used TiteGroup I think. I'd probably try Clays and J&K 158gr SWC. Those bullets are da bomb.

I started my wife off with 3.2 grains of hp38 over one of mitch's(j&k bullet caster) LRN 158's. That load is super light but still maintains pretty good accuracy up close. She's up to 3.5 grs now w/ no complaints. That is from a 4 inch gp100.

As any old bullseye shooter will tell you, 2.9gr bullseye or 3 gr HP38/231 under 148gr wadcutter have been standard target loads for decades. Light and extremely accurate.
You can use the same loads with 125gr lead, but they are not as accurate.

Class last week, 2 of the beginners wanted to learn revolver, started them out on Precision Delta 148gr lead WC remanufactured ammo in 3" S&W Model 60. (mother and daughter)
