When did the military start using adjustable stocks? It wasn't in Viet Nam was it? I thought the M-4 was the only version and that was the 80's?

I really don’t know about the date but some if the early versions was like a two position with a Aluminium butt stock.

yes they had adjustable stocks on some in vietnam but they only had two positions in and out and the rattled. the rifles had regular stocks.

In addition to the 2 position stock, of which there were a couple aluminum version and the fiberlight versions, the early XM177 had a 10" barrel on mostly slickside receivers. All the later ones were 11.5" barrel on M16A1 receivers.
