Why I'll never buy used/ thrift store cast iron cookware.

Was at Uptown thrift years ago and saw a little Dutch oven for sale. Thought it would be a nice pot to sit on our smoker's wood box. Looked at the side and saw the word "lead" scratched/ engraved. Took it to the checkout and showed the clerk. She just placed it on the floor. Always wondered if it was trashed or put back on the shelf.

Its actually more common then youd think. The cast iron pans can be found easily at garage/estate sales or thrift stores. They stack fine and are fairly consistent in weight

I have heard of this a few times before and bought one of those corn shaped molds the next time I saw one at a thrift store. I think it cost me $2-3. I don't reload or cast yet, but I have one for when I start.
