I agree, though a golf club can certainly be a deadly weapon.

Sounds like those LEOs are good people.

Problem is - the kid didn't have the clubs on him. He was unarmed.
I still can't believe that the guy didn't get in trouble

Would this in turn give the thief the right to press charges against the old man?

No. Anyone can arrest anyone. If you're a citizen and not an officer, you don't get qualified immunity protections, though.

So as long as there is belief of a crime, a CCW is within rights to draw their firearm & detain a suspect?

What if the thief had taken off running?

The man whose clubs were stolen may have been lawfully able to arrest the suspect but I don't believe his decision to do so was wise given the limited amount of information provided by the video.

You are within your rights to arrest someone if you think a crime is committed. If you're wrong though, no get out of jail free card, like officers get, i.e. qualified immunity.
