Best upgrade for sights on an SKS is a set of Tech-sights. It puts an aperture sight at the rear of the dustcover, and increases your sight radius.

I really appreciate all the great advice you guys have given me. I've decided I'm going to sell her. I don't want to put anymore money into her as I know I'll be loosing more money than I care to admit right now. I have her posted on Armslist
just FYI, if any of you SKS shooters shoot real brass and don't reload, I'd be interested in picking some up. Only if it's real brass and reloadable though. Sorry didn't want to highjack. Nice rifle by the way. I always liked those and wish I'd kept the several that I'd owned back when you could buy em for less the $100. I could be well ahead of the game right now if I had!
