Go with a Glock or a S&W MP before you get a 1911. They are cheaper (in some case half the costs) and they will be far more reliable and cheaper to shoot.

I know. I'm just lookin' into different ones and wanting opinions on ones that aren't particularly common like Glocks and M&P. I love the look of the FNS-9. I've shot .45s, 9mm, 22 and I think a .357. I'm aiming towards a 9mm for capacity and ease on the wallet though I cannot deny that 1911s just feel right in the hand. Just something about 'em, ya know? x.x

I'd recommend going with a 9mm first and taking your pick of what you like. Someone suggested shooting some and I second that as well. If you ever go .45 then a 1911 is the way to go, reports of glocks being "far more reliable" are just plain idiotic and speak of internet lore.
