new vfg on pistols ruling?

Thought I read somewhere that vert fore grips were legal to put on pistols now? Anyone know for sure? This will save some of us time in emailing folks on armslist that they can't do that, lolz

Don't know about a new ruling. There was a company (Franklin Armory if I'm not mistaken) that was selling an AR Pistol that had an overall length over 26". They had a letter from ATF saying that since it was over 26" it was not considered a pistol and could have a vertical grip.

Read the Franklin Armory ATF lettter I linked above. If your pistol meets the specs that ATF lists in the letter you can add a VFG.

So basically you can make an SBR without a stock, and no stamp is required. Interesting.

If the overall length is greater than 26". So a 7.5" barrel with a short receiver extension might not work.

Right, I figure either a 10.5 or 11.5 would most likely do the trick.
