NY Standoff

You guys seeing this? Afghanistan Veteran got Red Flagged in NY for having a 30 round mag and isnt coming out for the police...supposedly they have SWAT/APC's and lots of police presence around his house now. Hard to tell whats true or not right now...reports are that his social media was seized as he was broadcasting out on Instagram and those stopped.

Lots of stuff seemingly happening so its hard to filter and see whats real, whats heresay...

Just read that according to the local sheriff it was not a red flag order but that a deputy heard a gun shot come from the guy's house. He eventually surrendered. He's being charged with a few things but not for the standoff. Of course this could be a smokescreen by the local sheriffs office to not bring the light to how red flags laws can be abused.

Social media, both a gift and a curse.

This sounds like a domestic incident gone sideways. Burglary, aggravated harassment, criminal trespass etc....big beef with his ex. That's a story that's been told a million times before we got all up in arms about "red flags".

At least he has been wrapped up without bloodshed and can hopefully start to get, and accept, the help he probably needs (if he truly has PTSD).

It's funny that we have a lot of conversations about concealed carriers needing to be careful about not jumping into a violent confrontation when they don't have all the facts. Assumed liability, mis-identification etc...but then some folks are ready to (or claim to be ready to) load up and go all "Three Percent!" based on social media posts from a complete stranger in another state. Everything released by the sheriff is a lie and everything from a random instagram account is actionable "go-time" material LOL.

There is probably much more to the story than has been reported. Don't pack your bags just yet. More than likely it is nothing more than the same sort of incident that has happened occasionally over the past 25 years or so.
