If I would have taken all the money that has been taken from me and put into SS and put it in a good mutual fund, I would get alot more when I retire. I would like to get back the money I put in. I am not asking for anymore. Now that we have left the Gov in charge of our retirement, they can use it against and treaten us with taking it away. One minute Obama is telling us that SS is safe, while the libs tell us how stupid we are for thinking its not. The next minute Obama is telling us how we are going to lose it, and the same libs are telling us how stupid we are for not giving Obama what he wants. The media has not said a word about Obama's flip flopping.
I keep asking a simple question . How do we reduce our debt, by rasing the debt limit? Maybe I just don't get it.

Another fact is that 99.9% of the people would not invest the extra money into anything, if it did go into a voluntary system, leaving the taxpayers to support the people that did invest and loose it all, and those that chose to not invest but buy "things". When the money runs out, guess who pays..

Umm bc people dont. Saving/investing may be common sense to you and me but i deal with finances daily for a big bank and sad to say many people just dont get it.

I know that it would be a bad idea about doing away with SS and letting people invest how they see fit. There are too many irresponsible people that would not put back for their future.

And you guys have just effectively made the Left's case as to why we need to adopt socialist policies where the government can take care of us: the people refuse to take care of themselves. Be it retirement, healthcare, or safety - we need to be coddled. We need socialism.

I don't buy it, but then I'm a prick when it comes to this stuff. If you buy a flat screen TV with what is supposed to be your retirement, I hope it tastes good when the time comes. Let those idiots beg churches for a bowl of soup, or keep working until their last days. It's their own fault. Dennisshoddy makes a good point about them raising the retirement age every time there's a crisis. So then what are those of us supposed to do about OUR paid in portion, when the retirement age is in the mid-80s? Yep, everybody wants thiers, but sooner or later an entire generation is going to take it in the shorts. What about the money they paid in? I'm well aware that I won't ever see a penny of Social Security, unless I play "disabled" by some imaginary ailment like several I know do. The whole thing is a crock.

Because due to our current election system(electoral college) my vote doesn't count, and you can't convince me otherwise.

This is why the Dems have Super Delegates. It gives their people the feeling of voting. If the subjects don't vote for the chosen one, the Dem leaders can just over rule them.

Every man and woman of voting age with loads of common sense would make no difference at the ballot box; the candidates that we are offered are chosen for us from a pool of crooks. The sooner Americans figure out that they will change absolutely nothing at the ballot box, the better off we'll be. It's time to dump that fantasy.
