Went to Medlocks a few days ago and rented a S&W Model 640. Shooting it with the .38 Special was pretty cool, especially with the CTC grips.

But, then I made the move up to the .357 Magnum rounds. OW! FREAKIN' OW!!!!! Kick like a mule much? Damnation!

It was loud as hell, but I didn't mind that at all. I'm not sure I'll be putting mag rounds in my future carry snubbie.

Yes, I have to agree. The .357 mag is just way too much for that small a gun.

And that was a STEEL frame S&W. How much fun would that be with an airweight frame smithy? Uh...........no thank you.

You nailed it GED. I'm putting my hard-earned dollars in a model 642 or 442. Spend the savings on ammo. I love it when a plan comes together.

I'll save my leftover .357 Mag ammo for a 6-inch Model 686P. That should be much less painful to shoot. I hope...

A 6 inch L frame will be a breeze with those hot magnum loads. It'll eat those up and beg for more. :thumb:

I shot a cylinder full of .357's out of a friend's 640-1 a few years ago. That was enough of that. That thing was hard to control and I've shot 1000's of rounds through S&W snubbies.

My 640 no-dash is shootable with .38's as well as .38+P's. It has a bunch (many 100's) of .38 mid-range equivalents through it.

Ditto for the comment that J-frames are meant for .38's.

I had a M&P 340 for awhile and shot a box of .357s through it one afternoon. I found myself flinching in anticipation after the first cylinder full. My ex really wanted it so I sold it to her.
