We have the most highly trained special forces operatives in the world. Why doesn't the US just unlesh the dogs of war, and kill every one of those little ISIS douche bags? Seriously? Why keep tolerating the atrosities?

In all reality, this would end up much the same as Vietnam, Iraq II the sequel, and Afghanistan. You are fighting people that don't wear uniforms. Kinda hard to know which one is the bad guy when they look the just like every other person in the country. When the have a gun and are shooting at you, it's easy, but they don't do that. They make IEDs, blow themselves up in your camp, etc. It is tribal warfare, and we are set up for that, just like the brits were not prepared for many of the guerilla tactics we employed in the revolution. It was considered uncivilized to fight in such a manner but we won.

They have the upper on their turf (technically they are not in their own country, but close enough). We would have fight a war of attrition, scorched earth, all that jazz, but that isn't "socially acceptable". Too much collateral damage.

What sklfco said. The Politicians run the wars, it started with Korea. Think about it, up until then we won every war we were in. Now what is the record. Please forgive me if I made this sound like a game in wins and loss, that is not what I ment.

There is an estimated 17,000 of them. It won't end well for us.

This. It's not as simple as sending in SOF to kill ISIS.

ISIS is now firmly entrenched in power bases like Raqqa Syria. It would be just about impossible to infiltrate a place like Raqqa and execute a large capture/kill operation against the majority of their leadership.

SOF may be part of the answer but they aren't the complete cure.
