I do recommend the use of one. For newer shooters, the Classifier is a wonderful learning opportunity. Learning how to properly draw the pistol and access spare ammo from concealment is a good skill to gain.

The "no cover required for Classifier" is a IDPA HQ rule clarification dating back to March of 2004.
