I watched a recent video where a couple Russians were explaining the process to own firearms there. It’s basically a leftist dream… something along the lines of: weeks of classes, multiple psychological evaluations, strict registration, etc. then after you jump through all of that, you are only allowed to own smoothbore or slow action type hunting weapons. After a period of time you can then apply to take a bunch more classes and pay more money to get more licensing to own things like semi-autos and pistols. Also, once you become a gun owner you are subject to repeated psychological evaluations/government registrations/fees basically forever in order to keep your license
