Scope advice needed.

Looking for a scope to put on a Savage bolt action .308. Haven't decided exactly what gun to get yet, but it will be a heavy barreled gun, to be used hunting some, but mainly for long range target shooting. I would like to be able to get out to 1,000 with it, but most of my shooting will be done around 600.

A few things that are very important to me are, it needs to track consistently. I would like a mil reticle of some sort. Preferably not a mil-dot, I like the lines better since they are a bit easier to figure. It needs to be around $500, no more than about $550.

I didn't follow all your links, but I know Vortex has been a hot topic at the gun shops as being a great bargin for the quality of glass. (more so before there price increase earlier this year)

I would step up to the viper PST. The HS line is nice but you'll get matched turrets/reticle, better reticles, and illumination with the PST.

Hmmm, hundred bucks more, and less magnification. I do like the reticle though.

The one I linked from Midway is Mil/Mil. The downside is it's a Mil-dot. Would the trade of 15x for a top, vs 10x be worth getting illumination and the better reticle?

Hope so too, but I think I have about made up my mind on the Vortex 5-15, mil/mil one from Midway.
