Shipping a handgun question(s)

Hello all, I recently sold a handgun and the purchaser sent his FFL info to me and said that his state law requires a 50.00 charge (tax) on a gun shipped from a FFL to a FFL, and not from an individual to a FFL. My experience with UPS is that they wouldn't ship a rifle scope for me because it had "rifle" on the box. Does anyone have any experience shipping a handgun out of state to a FFL?

Did you go through a USPS store on that last one? You can ship as an individual to an FFL, but not all FFL's will receive from an individual. My advice would be to contact his FFL, make sure he'll accept it, and see what shipping method he prefers or recommends.

USPS will not accept a handgun from an individual, you will have to use UPS or Fedex.

It all depends on whom you get at the counter. It's OK for an individual to ship firearms to an FFL, but some of the folks accepting the packages don't know that (or, more precisely, know something that ain't so). I'd say you'd have better luck if you go to an actual UPS location, but that's where I had trouble the last time I shipped a handgun. I ended up just having a friend with an FFL take it with some other stuff he was shipping.
