Does the imminent threat part of the law apply only to people? haha. I'd avoid shooting a gun in the city. It's a quick way to get into a good bit of trouble. Also, if it's a big rattler, their strike range is pretty long. I'd be willing to bet that a 5' snake could reach out and touch you beyond your shovel or hoe reach.
