I have a lot of pecan but it kind of has an ashtray flavor if you use too much.
You do not get that with red oak.
I do love Hickory also I would take @CanadianRiverRat up on trying some if you have not.

Apple and peach did not thrill me in the least and I have had those trees to cut from.
I do not like mesquite very much and it is especially bad on pork.

Pork needs Oak or Hickory at least in my book.

You might check around Stratford they had a lot of Peach trees down over the winter and spring. Sorry, I don't have any numbers for ya, but it made the news about it. Good luck and happy hunting
