It can be frustrating as hell getting the cast down right. That is my main problem.
Other wise, you won't look back. Everytime I go fishing now, I wonder how it would be with a fly rod in the same area.

Tenkara is not fly fishing as we know it here in the states. It is Japanese fly fishing with specialized rods and technique. I have a Tenkara Ayu rod and it is fun but when I want to go fly fishing I usually pull out some stuff I have used for several decades. I would recommend you start with fly fishing as we know it and look at Tenkara later. I think you will enjoy it more that way. Get some casting lessons, don't spend a fortune on equipment, and try it out to see if you like it. Summertime is good as you don't even need to buy waders. It's a great sport but, as mentioned above, can be frustrating at times. Lessons really help. Enjoy!
