I'm still waiting on my Eagletac Clicky (AA), 4seven Quark (aa), and Nitecore MT2A to come in. I got my Jetbeam BA20 yesterday and should have my nitecore by Saturday or Monday. I still have received a shipping confirmation on the 4seven and Eagletac but hopefully I will have all of them by the end of the month.

I ordered a Veleno Designs D2 and Eagletac P20A2. I will be swapping the Eagletac between the fenix and nitecore until I decide which two I like the most. My wife will most likely inherit the one I like the least. I've heard great things about the D2 and will keep you guys posted once it arrives.

I've had a Surefire 6PLED for about five years. It has literally been ran over in a gravel parking lot and still works great. The batteries definitely last a lot longer in the led versions.

Pretty sure Nebo's are the most affordable high performance light available. Magnetic, glow in the dark button, water proof, 4 or 5 settings full/half/10%/strobe/S.O.S, dna collector, last as long or longer than most, etc etc etc. all for $27 on ebay. I own three 5610's, one of which I water tested in the bottom of a 55 gallon barrel overnight, and am going to try a shock test on my AR soon.

I have a nebo 5569 protect elite that I got from walmart for $39. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. The light is blinding bright. The construction is great as well. It easily clips to my AR or my glock in seconds. So I can switch between weapons really quickly. I don't have any reason to pay $200-$500 for a surefire or another expensive brand. The only thing surefire I did buy were two batteries for the NEBO. And that cost me under $5.

Hey guys, I want to get my dad a flashlight for his birthday. What is a good pocket sized light for $80 or less?

What will it's primary use be (bedside, truck-storage, EDC, going outside and checking on things)?

What distances does he normally need to light up (in the country - long ways / in the city - not quite as far)?

Will he care about what type of batteries it uses (CR123s are a pain to some, but if you bulk-order at ~$1 a piece, they're no issue)? Also, does he prefer rechargeables?

Do you think he'll want something with tons of modes or a KISS light with like 1 or 2 modes?

1) im wanting to get him something for hunting/fishing but if it is something he likes he will use it for everything.

2)distances will probably vary from finding his was to his tree stand to arms length(dressing a deer/putting a lure on a swivel)

3)battery type doesnt really matter. If the flashlight is rechargeable it needs to be micro usb or work with the new ipad plug.

4)he likes gadgets, so hi/med/lo/strobe, rgb, and variable brightnessd are things he would like.

My personal preference is small form-factor single CR123 LEDs with a balance of 200 or more Lumen high mode, but decent mid-range power with good battery life. I like a light with rechargeable batteries, but I won't own one that doesn't have removable batteries (so rechargeable / 1-time batteries are all the user's choice in my world).

Here are some high-performance well-built budget-friendly lights:

JetBeam BC10 (regret selling this one - it is an amazing flashlight for the price)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/jetbeam-bc10.html

JetBeam PC10 (one of the best flashlights I own)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/jetbeam-pc10.html

NiteCore MT1C (I have been wanting to try one of these out for a bit - it is next on the list)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/nitecore-mt1c-smo.html

Sunwayman S10R (I actually have one of these on the way - should be here today or tomorrow)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/sunwayman-s10r-xml2.html

Fenix PD22 (Can't go wrong with Fenix - and the PD series is a classic)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/fenix-pd22-g2.html

Olight M10 (I hear good things about this one, but have never owned one)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-m10-xml2.html

Olight S10 (this is one of the more impressive tiny lights I own - lots of power in a compact little package)
http://www.batteryjunction.com/olight-s10.html

I'm actually selling a Sunwayman M10R in the classifieds here - it's a very nice flashlight, but I've grown familiar with the interfaces on my other lights (rotating dial interfaces just aren't my thing), so I went with the new S10R to try it out.

Go ahead and pick up a 12-pack of CR123s while you're at it:

Titanium Innovations (these are the batteries I use)
