Waterfowl 19'/20'

First time all season I didn't at least see a single duck. Time to hang up the waders, pray for cold December weather, and hit em again after the split.

Lots of mallards again today... no other ducks to be found. Set up in the wrong spot and wasted the first 30 min. Then Had to pull em early today to get back home and get ready for thanksgiving guests. 2 of us ended up with 1 limit of mallards.

Salt Plains current survey doesn’t look good...4,729 Ducks, 10,672 Geese, 8,691 Sandhill Cranes posted yesterday which is down from 7,237 Ducks, 29,066 Geese, and 27,132 Sandhill Cranes on 11-15 which was down from 33,337 Ducks, 20,683 Geese, 40,127 Sandhill Cranes on 11-7.

It's pretty slim pickings right now.

If western ks gets this next snow storm the numbers will pick up. Then we need some cold weather to push the birds south of salt plains.

All in all this is the best first half I’ve had in some time.... not fantastic but better than the last couple of years for sure. And all of it’s been with a 20 gauge which has turned out to be a lot of fun.

Yes, definitely one of the best first halves I've hunted ducks. The first couple of week were lights out. Since then it has gradually gotten slower and slower. Going to hit it one more time this weekend since my deer hunting plans fell through. Not expecting much.

My son and a buddy hunted a pond this morning. They’ve both been focused on deer but figured they might give the last day a shot. They hasn’t been checking this pond so basically hunted it blind
