"Amped" by Daniel H Wilson is good if he likes sci-fi. Takes place in Oklahoma and I think the author is from here. If he's interested in mysteries, the Mitch Bushyhead series by Jean Hager is pretty good. It deals with a lot of Cherokee legends and culture.
