The latest news about terrorists is they are trying to perfect a method of implanting bombs inside their suicidal nut job operatives so they can get on planes without fear of detection and blow 'em up.
That really makes one wonder what the leaders of these guys are thinking, what their real objectives are because I for one don't get it.
Are they trying to make people afraid to fly? If so what they're doing really isn't working. People aren't really afraid to fly.
Are they trying to hurt the airline industry and just make it tough on flyers with all the security hoops put in place by the Western governments? If so that isn't working either. Your typical sheep just keeps on taking it and accepting what ever the various goobermints throw at them in order to herd the sheep along. Doesn't seem to bother most people at all. In fact it is highly likely most of 'em feel safer because of it.
Are they trying to show the world how bad ass they are? Again: if so it really isn't working because their impact on the daily lives of most people in the Western nations that are the targets of their evil are not impacted to any real degree.
Really, what is on their minds? Cuz if fear is their goal (they are after all called terrorists) and their guys don't really don't mind dying in the process of generating terror there are lots of easier, more splashy ways that will really put the fear of GOD into the sheep and the terrorist gets to go down fighting instead of just going SPLAT.
Take a mall, a grocery store or a restaurant for instance. Gettin' in to one would be way easier, almost a cake walk compared to the problems involved with getting on a plane.
10 guys in teams of 2. Assigned to 5 different places where locals gather thru out a country or in multiple countries. Each terrorist has an AK with 'da switch and five or six 30 round mags each. At a fixed time all 5 teams open up. They'll all get killed - maybe courtesy of local CCW holders or more likely via the action of a rapid reaction para-military force. But they would have at least gone down fighting.
And - that type of action would make a real splash; a big, really big splash. Bring the terrorist agenda home to Americans or Germans or Brits or the French, etc. That would be taking out the locals in a community, not fat cats on vacation at a fancy hotel or some anonymous folks on a plane. Whole communities and not just the few families impacted would become involved. That would strike fear into the hearts of entire communities. Look at what's happened in the USA and the security that surrounds airports. People would be screaming for the same thing for their malls. And that would/could impact a whole nation.
Surely the terrorist leadership has thought about such a scenario yet to the best of my knowledge nothing of the sort has ever been carried out. Which leaves one to believe that terrorism, striking fear into the hearts of the people is not their main goal.
