I don't know if this stuff is legal or not. All the ingredients are legal. I just put this out there because candy flavored PCP that kids can make from stuff you can get at Wal-Mart might be something parents would want to know about. There are probably parents out there who have all the ingredients in their house right now.

Real "Lean" or Sizzurp or Purple Drank, isn't candy flavored PCP (Phencyclidine). It uses Promethazine (Phenergan is the trade name) cough syrup which also contains codeine, an opiate. It's more similar (though not identical) to a drinkable oxy/hydrocodone. This stuff is prescription only. It's not legal without a prescription.

The DM syrup is over the counter, but it's not the same thing as the stuff being talked about in the rap songs. This stuff is over the counter, and the ingredients are similar to "lean" aside from the lack codeine. The DM stuff might be compared to PCP, and Candy Flavored if mixed with other ingredients like jolly ranchers, but the results aren't from some special cocktail of ingredients. It's just kids dosing on cough syrup that apparently don't know or don't care that they aren't getting the Phenergan and opiates in real "lean." It's like kids who aren't resourceful enough to find some sticky icky dank 'dro trying to smoke grapevine instead.

Yes and no. Real purple drank uses the codeine. The non prescription version contains the DXM of which you speak, and is possibly more dangerous. In high concentration DXM is a disassociative anesthetic, the same category as PCP. Along with being in the same category, it produces similar effects.
