This came up in conversation today. I need a time line on when .22 centerfire rifles became legal in Oklahoma...We think the 223, 22-250, and maybe 22swift...? Became legal in 1991. Then all .22 centerfires were legalized sometime around 1995..or 1998..could you guys help me out? Thanks

I had heard that several states including Oklahoma made 223 legal so that AR's and Mini 14's could be classified as sporting rifles. This was either just before or after the ban of 1994.

I believe that happened sometime during the big assault weapons ban that started in 1994. My opinion was that they legalized the .223 for deer hunting to justify people to own AR-15's. (one of the better decisions state lawmakers made) The argument was that the .223 was not a good caliber for hunting and there was no need for the AR-15 and it was useless as a hunting rifle.
