I was in the Military when Nixon froze our pay for two years to prove he was looking out for the American economy.
I was making $90 some dollars a month in 1970 as a private. Thats not a typo.
When they passed the "new Army" deal, it doubled my pay per month.
My wife and newborn got an additional $170 per month to live with me off post.
Rent, utilities, food, and diapers came from that budget. Pretty tough days.
Beans and stolen food from my units lunches supplemented our evening meals.
So, yes I understand the pain of Government employees.
I've gone through bad times in private companies as well.
Life is pretty good now though by making wise choices along the way.

why dont we pass something that says no member of the legislative branch of the government is eligble for a pay raise in any year that the country operates in a deficit.

I am a federal worker and did not do a piss poor job. Anyone fly out of OKC and not smash into the Devon tower? You are welcome. I developed the procedures so planes do not smash in to it when they depart.
