I will find a new source of income. It may not be right away, but it will happen. Thanks in advance for those that pay taxes because I may soak up some government entitlements for a while ;D

Just remember, you are paying those taxes as well. No shame in getting help when in a time of need. Just curious (because I don't want to ask my friend right now), when you say you have been there since 95 and think you might be laid off, how deep is this going to go in terms of seniority?

I have a source in HR and he told me his estimated seniority cut date will go back to 1992. Im about 99% sure im getting cut. I hope they have a change of heart but the writing is on the wall and my prediction is that this the the first round in outsourcing all maintenance entirely. I personally believe that in a few years the only AA employees in Tulsa will be the ones you see at the Airport.

OKC went through the same thing when Western Electric/AT&T/Lucent Tech/Celestica and General Motors closed their manufacturing plants. I worked for WE/ATT/Lucent/Celestica for 26 years and was one of those evil union peeps making $26/hr + benefits when I got laid off in 2002. They moved our jobs to Montery Mexico where they were paying the mexican workers 1.50/hr. Fortunately for all those years they paid me a living wage all while making millions in corporate profits year after year, I managed my money well and was able to start my retirement at age 47. I now work part time for my self and my wife (who also got laid off from the same in 2002) and I still live quite well. She went back to work full time for 1/2 what she was earning at WE/ATT/Lucent/Celestica but that is life. Such is the new US economy and way of doing business.

Your attitude will certainly land you in another position with a great company. That date will certainly include my friend as well. Maybe they will offer a buyout to the older employees to get them to retire early.

Usually I come hear just to soak up valuable info on our shared interest in firearms and don't really post but some posts in this thread kinda stirred something. I'll refrain from speaking most of what 'im thinking but will offer this. First it's a sad thing that will effect a lot more than just those laid off but them the most. I've been there and I feel for them. I personaly don't care to fly in AC maintained by the lowest bidder/country with no oversight. Valuejet comes to mind. And like many others here I just love those UPS goodies delivered to my door but no one seems to mind that their mechs get close to 40 an hr and do Not haul your family. People complained about bag fees. You ALWAYS paid bag fees. Just divded up amongest every pass regardless of if you had one or 300 lbs of t shirts from vacation. And still do on airlines that "don't charge" for bags. For those that posted goodwill to those facing hard times I salute you.

While the DoD is making cuts, Tinker (for now) is surviving. While there may not be room for 2,000+ former AA employees, there are always positions open for [insert any and all parts of a plane] mechanic on Tinker. Moving isn't always possible, even as close/far away as 100 miles, but I hope those able to make the move can find something in a more stable environment. Whether it's at Tinker, FAA, or elsewhere.

Good luck to you all!
