The oil field related company my wife has worked for with 43 years of service announced today they are closing the doors and moving the business to Houston Tx.
250 or so employees effected. Some will be offered jobs to move. Most won't. LOTS of 20 year plus employees.
So, effectively in 60 days or so, my wife retires early and we begin stage 2 in our lives together.
We bought a 29' RV last Saturday in anticipation of her retiring some time in the future not knowing it was coming so quick, so we are looking at spending the rest of our healthy lives with a lot of time visiting parts of this country we've never seen.
We are excited.

Been there done that. Even the same city. They offered me a good slot down there and a pretty dang good relocation package, but there was that whole Houston thing. :nolike:

A few went down and a year later all but one were working at different companies. We were a great team up here. Not so much down there.

Congrats, sorry to hear that it wasn't exactly on her own timeline and terms.

She liked to go to work, and her comment was exactly what you said. She wanted it on her terms.
Of the 113,000 people working for Schlumberger, she was in the top .01% of senior employees world wide.
It was a business decision that most don't agree with, but that's life, and we go on.

Well, I prefer fly fishing as my #1 method now. Still learning. I don't think the learning curve ever stops. LOL
We actually contacted Terry and Joe for some great advice they had to give. Talked to them on the phone a couple of times.
At this time, we don't see us going full time like them.
I bring home the RV tomorrow, and then we will make a couple of short excursions close to home.
Bartlesville is not effected. This is Schlumburger not Conoco/Phillips.

Schlumburger has a manufacturing facility in B'ville for electric submersible pumps and horizontal surface pumps. tRidiot's post was not conflating it with C/P.

There are a lot of good things to see in this great USA.
If you never seen the Giant sequoias you must do it.

I Love the coast travel.. never tried it in an RV though.
Sounds like you lovebirds will have a good time. :)
