Now some here are looking for a decent bolt gun in .223.
Savage Axis II was mentioned but I feel that may get laughed at based on what some of the
guys here were looking for.
I tossed stones at that .223 or 5.56 for years as I was in the 30cal heavies group and thought the .223 was just not adequate for killing the deer here.
Boy was I wrong.
My Savage Axis is one of my most fun guns to shoot and only accurate guns are fun to shoot in my book.
My first outing with my Axis with 3-9 x 50 Tasco sscope.
Loaded a ladder test with Varget... 6 rounds
24.5. TO 26.0 gr in .3gr steps. CCI 550 primers. Lee dies, Federal cases
.795" center to center group At 100 yards 1.5gr difference in charge weight.
Shot all 6 back to back single loading them.. one front bag no rear bag.
Here is another 100 yard target working loads with that 60 gr. v-max and LC 13 cases and Varget.
3 shot groups as fast as I could get back on target.
100 yards with the Vmax vs the PSP 55gr bullets.
This is a pencil barrel gun I paid $150 for and I have shot 3 shot group at 300 under 1".
With that 55gr V-max.
Those Axis rifles are very accurate and inexpensive.
I love mine and have no desire to try and find something more accurate as this gets it done.
But I do not shoot competition just hunting and plinking.
