Dumb question about 22

My Winchester 1890 hex barrel pump is chambered in .22 long.

Yeah, .22 Long is the Long Rifle case but with the 29 - 30-gr. bullet of the .22 Short. Velocity was a little faster than the Long Rifle at close range, but lost speed quickly due to the lighter bullet. When I was a kid, and could walk into the local OTASCO in Chandler and buy .22 ammo without question, I always bought the cheap Canadian-made .22 Longs. It was really dirty stuff, but it cycled mt Remington 552 without a problem.

WOW, lot of info there.

I usually just found what 'brand' my rifle liked for accuracy and stocked up on that or in a pinch bought the cheapest I could find. Bullet wt / style or velocity just wasn't that important, at that time. But it does show just how much variation there is between brands and types.

I had a couple .22 long cartridges I found in my uncles dresser drawer. I used them to shoot squirrels when i was about 11. My stevens-springfield single shot .22 ate them just find. No telling how old they were.

SO TRUE! From what I remember the difference between Longs and LR was $.16 box. Longs = $0.50 and LR = $0.66. Had to be rich to shoot LR or get really lucky and catch them on sale and just happen to have 4 bits (which wasn't very likely).

Shave and hair cut two bits? Lol

My 1954 Armi Galese Pistol only shoots (correction-will only cycle) 22 longs. had a hard time finding a box of longs a couple months ago. not so much now.
