Everyone I know uses cattle panels and T posts to fence their feeders.

Unless this will be a permanent feeder pen, barbed wire would be a last resort.

I use three strategies. T-posts and panels are good for temp locations. At my permanent sites, corner posts cemented in 12 feet apart in a square with one t-post in between each and wired off. Gives the deer plenty of room to feel comfortable and the keeps cattle well away from the feed. Also I have welded 2 inch pipe together in a "U" shape and cemented the inverted U into the ground. Then attach a hoist to the side and have a feeder you can crank up and down with out the need for a fence.
