I've got the Escort Max 360 and it works well. It wasn't that much when I got it, but it sure wasn't cheap. It does a good job of filtering out false alarms and has a GPS in it, but not one that gives directions. It recognizes the same alarm at the same location and after several encounters with that signal, it can "learn" to reject it. It will also tell you your speed and you can set it to alert you if you are exceeding the limit by a predetermined amount (adjustable by you).

I can often pick up oncoming radar signals three or four miles away, terrain allowing. It can also tell you if the alert is in front of you, behind, or to a side (but not which side). It also can show you how many different signals it's picking up.

Yes. With me, anyway. Most of the officers I worked with felt the same.
Years ago, I worked with a fellow who just got back from a trip where he wound up driving through Old Virginny.
Back then radar detectors were illegal in the Commonwealth of Virginia. (Don't know about now.)
He said when the nice state policeman pulled him over, the guy said instead of speeding, I'm gonna write you a ticket for the radar detector.
Apparently that didn't carry points on your insurance ???

Here, but occasionally There.
Having roughly 64 years of licensed driving, with a number of years as a commercial driver, I've never owned a radar detector nor been even interested in one.

While driving commercially, we had one driver that both a radar detector and a scanner set to pick up police calls. He eventually learned that instant on radar and police not using their radio until they had one stopped, neither was beneficial for him.

Even way back then we had Lidar that you could point at a target and hit the trigger. It didn't emit anything until you pulled the trigger. Don't recall how far away it worked but it was further than we could ever see in the city where I worked. Put the crosshairs on your target and Bam! The signal ceased as soon as you let go of the trigger. It was enough to alert other drivers with detectors, but depending on how far away you were, it oftentimes didn't matter. And laser detectors were pretty pricey and unreliable back then, too.
