So a few months ago when it was still warm I had a friend order my Remington 700 AAC-SD. My first impressions was BAD A$$. I mean come on I paid just hair over $700 OTD locally and helped to keep a local guy in business. ;) Granted I could have ordered it online for less OH WELL, I wanted it and had it within a week!

Threaded, tacticool look, hogue stock, add a one piece rail, scope, sling, and bipod and done right? Thats what these guys thought!

Well not quite, and here is why. I noticed when I went to the range to sight the scope in dead on at 100 that it would make a single cold bore shot dead on at 100 but the following 4 shots would spread out. ?!?!?!?! WTF right? well thats when I decided to look close to see what was going on.

AH-HA! having had a similar thing happen to me 22lr bolt gun I started looking at the stock/barrel fit, and sure enough using the bipod with the weight of the rifle was causing the stock to flex touch the barrel and throw bullets. Unfortunately it was way to close to opening day for rifle to make any changes. So I took it how it was and off to kill, I mean put meat on the table. Off hand it done great and took down 2 deer and a yote. All in all I was happy with the rifle however I knew some changes were in order

Fast forward to present I know only a week lol. Anyway I decided to trade the 20x42 scope off of the 308 as it was just to much for what I needed. So I just dropped a cheap scope that I have used on a savage 308 and got good performance out of before on it. Then thanks to another board member I got a great deal on a 700VLS stock and bam for now until I can shell out another $350 for a scope its done again!

I had to open up the barrel channel a little to free float that shot 20'' heavy barrel but no big deal, some 120 grit sand paper and a 18mm deep well craftsman socket worked great. Sealed it up with some oil rub finish so its gtg in the weather. Ill get a different set of rings soon and lower the scope down some.

Let us know how it shoots bc I was looking at buying this or the non threaded version. Its hard to think that the few pounds of pressure on the barrel from the stock would cause a significant difference in shot placement. I know the twist rate is different in these rifles. What weight bullet are you using when you got the bad groups?

Well its not as light as my 22 so the weight and the stock touching the barrel was a lot more noticeable. I reload all of my 308, I was shooting a 168gr A-Max on 44grs of varget. Its a very accurate load out of all the 308's we have. All are 1:10'' twist so I know its the stock. That and I used sand bags instead of the bipod and it shot a 3/4'' group. I will defiantly share how the new stock does and pos up some pics too!

The 700 AAC SD is a great rifle, as is the SPS tactical. What holds them both back is the janky @55 Hogue stuck. I put a Bell&Carlson A2 stock on mine (SPS tac), and it'll hold about 3/4 MOA out to 600 yards (with 168gr FGMM). I'm sure it'd do better if I wasn't shooting it.

Have you thought of having your hogue stock bedded. That would probly stiffen it up enough not to flex
bedding the stock won't really help. The problem is the forend of the stock isn't rigid. If you want to keep the Hogue, you'd have to sand down the inside ridges, lay steel rods or the like from the barrel shank out and then bed it with epoxy like marine-tex.

Yep thats why I bought a factory take off laminate stock and love it. but then again I bought this with the intent to change up most of the gun just the stock and such, Ill leave the trigger alone.
