S&W Mod 36 bobbed hammer with Hornady CD. In summer sometimes LCP.
I haven't chrono'd each load to compare, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I have chrono'd the GD short barrel out of my 442 when I had it. It was within 2 FPS of the factory stated velocity which surprised me.
I've also chrono'd a screaming handload out of my 2.5" .357 magnum snubbie and the idea that a magnum round of a snubbie isn't any better than .38 is pure unadulterated hogwash. That load was with a vastly slower powder (actually a fast rifle powder) and it was pushing 1300 FPS. It wasn't a max load either, as a matter of fact is was a starting load straight from the Vhit manual. I don't really care to push that particular gun any harder since it's a pre-lock, pre-MIM model.
I should clarify, if I remember right, this wasn't .357 magnum loads... I think they were testing .38 spl only.
I go between a Ruger LCR 9mm with 124gr Critical Defense and S&W 638 .38 Spl with 110g Critical Defense (changing to Fed 130gr Micro +P very soon). Just got Speed Strips today for the S&W. Ruger takes moon clips, which in my opinion are the best option for reloads.
Ruger is a bit larger, fits perfectly in my coat pocket. S&W slides in front pants pocket very easily. View attachment 111249
How ya like those VZs?
I’ve carried a J-frame as a fishing/hunting CC type weapon (with shot shells in speed loader for snakes) but as an edc, I don’t see it’s place above the compact 9mm options.
G43 or PC Shield or LC9 or a myriad of other 9mm guns are thinner, have more capacity and 9mm>.38
Just my opinion
