Well with the hunting seasons pretty much over the forum starts to turn a little into it predator stage and we seem to get a newbie or need a refresher, with some predator question, like we all have been there. ME not having as much skill/luck like some of the other experienced/lucky guys here, i tend to do a lot of searching to see if I can improve when out in the field. So being a little bored I got to putting this together and here is something’s i ran across to help out those who might have questions and or a quick reference about the great elusive coyote....

WHEN CAN YOU HUNT THEM----

HAND CALL USE----

Found this channel and subscribed to it, while I was searching around on YOUTUBE. This shows the best of the best using hand calls at the World Predator Calling competitions. This should help out in giving a better idea on what to sound like and or watching the use of some calls to get the output…BUT FROM MY PERSONEL EXPERIENCE…..practice, practice, practice. Listen to these guys and pause the video, try your hand call and see if you can get the rhythm and sound close to what they do. Practice, practice, practice, is my best answer for “HOW DO I USE A HAND CALL”

WHAT VOCALS TO USE AND WHEN------

Here is a link to an online magazine “PREDATOR EXTREME” about predator vocals and some of there meaning. It was done back in 08’ but after reading I learned a few new things. Once you open the link, to the left is the table of contents, select what you want and it will automatically go to the topic with in the magazine. Also look at the BACK ISSUES that are with in the tabs of that area good stuff. Using the blue arrows at the top will turn the page and the magnifying glass to make larger so that you can read. (I could copy paste but not sure if that is legal, so I’m playing it safe.)

SHOT PLACEMENT-----

Now that you got the calling down and you got one in your sites this might help out. At times there are the question of “where is the best shot placement on a coyote”, well I got to looking at the anatomy of the dog and found a pic that could be handy in understanding just where and what, that bullet your sending is going to hit. THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE of one good area. If you’re using a 338 LAPU or big caliber similar…. just make contact, LOL

Normally from the deer hunting habits we would say just a little behind the shoulder,

Here you can see roughly that the shot is little more back from a good or decent “vitals” shot.

i1222.photobucket.com_albums_dd500_TKC78_c903645a.jpg

So here we have moved that shot a little bit more forward and help kind of give a line on where we would like the shot at.

Now that put us a lot closer to the vitals of the yote to help give us that DRT (dead right there) hit that we are wanting. Also if the shot is a little high you run the chance of hitting the shoulder bone and really causing that nice projectile to expand and do a little more damage.
