whining about how the NRA doesnt do enough good is not an equal substitute for 2nd amendment advocacy.

In fact, its just the opposite.

You do understand that all those names on there have voted to protect your 2nd Amend. rights?
This article is a Democrat vs Republican issue.
The NRA endorsement is based purely on voting record and answers to questions on thier survey.

+1

The NRA does not exist to support the will of the republican party. It exists to defend 2nd ammendment rights and support politicians that do so - regardless of which party they come from.

I personally just don't feel like they really stand up for the 2nd amendment, but instead they stand for their interpretation of it.

This, but it's far easier to change them from within rather than griping about them as a non-member. Their "leadership" needs to be voted out just as badly as those on capitol hill. :(

The next time open carry comes up for a vote we will all see if they decide to “neither support nor oppose it” again. Is this not a Second Amendment or at least related issue? As far as I am concerned that stance shows their true nature and cost them my membership.

I just tried this, and it is impossible. A person has to write a letter to the company to cancel. Explained I did not have to write a letter to join, but thats different. Impossible to get your money back. If anyone has succeded please let me know.

This. The only thing I haven't done is request that my bank block their auto-drafts. (EPL)

First, why would you cancel your NRA membership?

I want to cancel because they do not support gun rights. They support their bread an butter: litigation (or the threat thereof) on gun rights issues. I figured this out after studying their history, and it was pretty much solidified with them declaring Heller and McDonald as "victories" for the Second Amendment. Any "gun rights" organization that sees those as victories is only looking out for themselves and not for the Right [of the People] to Keep and Bear Arms.

I have to agree with glocktogo, why would anyone want to cancel their NRA membership. I honestly believe that without NRA we would have already lost most of our gun rights.
