It is a free site, Kelly wants it to stay that way. TKR, you dont have to pay anything to be here. You do ask a good question tho. I know several reasons why a person might want to contribute if they want to help out.
If you're curious, the hosting for the site runs me about $1200 per year on a VPS server and we are a very busy site, nearing 40 million hits in December. We run roughly about 200-250 gig per month bandwith which is quite a bit for a site that only serves text pages. We don't have file downloads here.
Obviously the downtime is an inconvenience and I do apologize for that.

Just a side note: I'm doing repairs, reindexing, and backups today so you may very well experience some temporary disruptances from the database side while these tasks are being performed. Some of this is routine maintenance.
I have only been her for 3 years I think and the site isnt that poorly ran and its not down that much really. I think people are so addicted to the site that when it goes down they go into withdrawls and a day seems like a year.

I just noticed someone beat me to the punch on what I was posting.
Is there a way for us to donate..? Most of us who spend time here appreciate this forum. I'm sure there are some others who would donate the put a dent in the overall bill.

It's not all that bad. If you consider how much some people are on here it runs fairly smooth. Speaking for myself the sight normally has a open page on my MacBook at home and on my iPhone on most days. Everyone should know computers just like guns and cars need maintained well a server is a computer too it needs cleaned and updated too.

If you need less traffic and less usage, shut down the FGST threads and lock down the classifieds to only be viewed and posted in by a $5-15 (or some other small amount) annual fee.
