We rarely get solicitors, but this evening right after dinner a young man in a "GE Security" shirt came to the door. My wife answered the door and called me over. He started out nice, but developed an attitude and launched a smart-ass comment after I told him "No thank you, we aren't interested."

I didn't feel like running him down to get a name, but it really rubbed me the wrong way. Anyone else getting them in their 'hood?

In the Tulsa area you have to be very careful opening the door to anyone that knocks unannounced. We have a "No Solicitor" sign on the door. I have been known to answer the door with my Glock sticking out of my waistband. That usually ends the conversation pretty quickly as well as the fact the whole time they are staring at my Glock and trying to pitch their product, I'm standing there not saying a word while pointing at my sign.

I found this about GE home security scams:

http://www.usalarm.com/home-security-topics/how-to-avoid-home-security-scams.html

This excerpt is interesting.

People who claim to work directly for GE and Honeywell; these companies don't sell directly to consumers and don't allow their logos to be worn by salespeople.

Anyone that tries to gain entry into your home without an appointment.

Also, from googling (is that a word), it looks like reports from other states are popping up about GE security scams with salesmen appearing at the doorstep.

If you need to verify someone in the business, look here: http://www.ok.gov/health/Protective_Health/Occupational_Licensing_Division/Alarm_and_Locksmith_Program/ .

All companies, installers, and salesmen must be licensed by the state or they are operating illegally. I do not see a GE listed. Honeywell is, but not sure if it's the Honeywell or someone using their name and they are only listed for fire, access control and cctv.

I worked in the industry partime for years as an installer. Made great money and did know a few good salesman, but most are the ones who couldn't even make it as car salesman and just one step up from vacuum salesman (don't mean to step on anyone's toes if you're any of these...).

I also have a no soliciting sign, catches about 99% of those that are smart enough to read it, for those that aren't they get a reading lesson.....

After they see my 4 dogs meeting them at the door then me with my gun I ask them if they really think I NEED their security system. I have a no soliciting sign on my door too so that's why they aren't greeted in a friendly way.

I'd have given him one to the hip...
