Last I heard, the "contract prison" keeps its doors locked. Not sure how that makes the town worse.

I lived in Lawton for a lot of years. Crappy is as crappy does, and OKC and Tulsa are equally crappy in their own ways. CB

Inmate families living in the area. You ever visit Jess Dunn Prison area? Had to do an interview over there and that area close to the outside of the prison was very shady. Same with Boley, Oklahoma. And then you have all of these pog military people around here.

I go to Lawton quite a bit. It is way cleaned up than it was in the
70's. The ol bus station which was down by the mall. Was way
fun. They moved all the titty bars out west. You can still maybe
get a hooker north of Cache Road between Sheridan and Fort
Sill Blvd. But you really don't want too. The saying not even
with yours come to mind. I have served summons in Lawton. Real
entertaining city.

I don't know why Lawton is bad but it is. I have worked down there off and on. My friend down in Comanche acts like it is the anus of Oklahoma. I wouldn't doubt anything down there. When I was on Ft Sill working he would always give the low down on how many people where shot at Stripes the night before.

This thread brings the funny. As dystopian urban hellholes go, Lawton is pretty mild. I've never felt the least bit unsafe there.
As for Ft. Sill, if you closed it down, Lawton would turn into a ghost town.

That is true, maybe working inside Goodyear has made me jaded about Lawton?!?

I agree about it being pretty mild. It is just like any bigger city. There are parts of town that you would most likely shy away from after dark and the better part of Lawton is just fine.

Seriously, those kids in the Army are trying to make something of their lives and they tend to be good people. That's not the obligatory OSA suck-up to cops and soldiers, it's just the simple truth in my experience.
