DALLAS - Three people were injured Monday night when a man accidentally fired his handgun while standing in a checkout line at a Dallas Walmart.
Police say the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was reaching for his wallet about 10:15 p.m. at the Walmart on Forest Lane at Abrams Road when the gun went off.
The bullet struck the man in his buttock, then ricocheted off the ground and broke into pieces.
Those fragments struck a little girl in the leg and another woman in the foot.
When that happened, police say the man panicked and took off running. Officers quickly caught him.
The suspect is now facing evasion charges, plus injury to a child.
Police say the man did have a concealed handgun license, but apparently forgot to engage the safety on his gun.
