Second time for background check, second time delayed

I have filled out the forms twice now for background checks, and both times I have been delayed for three days. Is this something I should expect every time I want to purchase a firearm from an FFL dealer?
I provided my SSN both times, and I have no criminal history or anything that I can think of that would be a reason I'd be in their database.
Is there a way to find out the reason for the three day delay?

Your SSN is not required. I've never put my SSN on a 4473. Is this the same item at the same FFL, or is this two separate incidents?

Same FFL, different item a few weeks after first.

Thanks for the link! I guess I'll have to do the VAF application. Didn't realize they delete info after every check. That's good to know, but means whatever is causing my delays probably isn't going away.
Sucks I have to pay for fingerprinting for something that shouldn't be my problem. I'm guessing I can go to the same sheriff's office where I was printed for my CCL? Any place that will do it cheaper than their $25?

I almost always get delayed. Have purchased firearms for years, no criminal history, but always get delayed, when I do get a rare same day approval, I always go by a lottery ticket afterwards.

You may have a similar name or social to someone not so nice. It may go away, or not. Is the three days that big a deal to you? Look yourself up on oscn.net or google yourself. May answer a question for you. Good luck.
