How about one outside of the house? 9 feet tall....

Hand Crafted 9-foot Grizzly Bear

It might be just a wee bit steep on the price, but it's damn close to looking exactly like a bear.

That's pretty much exactly what I was talking about! Unfortunately, the closest I could come to affording it would be buying the sawdust leftover from carving it LOL.

Been there, done that, will never do it again.

I will only go to all-inclusive resorts for those kinds of vacations. I drink way too much $$. They even check you for alcohol being brought back onto the ship.

The worst part was worrying about getting back on the ship at a certain time, they dont wait for you ya know...

You take off for a day of adventure, but you watching the clock and worrying the whole time. Not my idea of fun.

I read somewhere on one of those "what you need to know about...." websites that alcohol is one of the biggest money makers for cruise lines so find a cruise that allows you to bring your own alcohol aboard and you will save big $$$. I'm not a big drinker so it wouldn't matter to me but for others I can see it being a big deal. As bad a restaurants shank you on drinks, I imagine aboard a ship it has to be even worse.

Great Info! I am looking for a fun cruise for the wife and me; probably like to go to Alaska. She has no interest in scuba or snorkeling, but we do like to see cool stuff and we are foodies. So, when I look at the cruise sites, it gives a price for a room: I am wondering if that's the price per person or is it the price for the room, no matter if it's 1 or 2? I'm trying to figure a rough idea of the cost for us to go on an Alaska Cruise in late spring/early summer? We wouldn't hang out in the cabin all day, but we don't want cheap-bedbug-hotel-accommodations either. Are there other suggested destinations (besides the Caribbean) we should look at?

If you are looking at "different" from Alaska or the Caribbean, consider booking on a "transition" cruise. That is what the cruise is called when a cruise company "transitions" from west coast Mexican cruises to the Alaskan cruises. I think they cruise to Hawaii. I don't know the details, or even if that would interest you.

With the Alaskan cruises, we booked our ports-of-call through Royal Caribbean in a number of ports along the way. If I remember right, we did one excursion in each port, as well as checking out the local shops. As an avid photographer, I spent a lot of time on the 10th deck of Vision of the Seas because it was the only one where an individual could go all the way around the perimeter of the ship for photographs. I loved that while going through the Inside Passage, which is just about all the way up.

We took a cruise and land tour, and I think it was something like 12 or 13 days that included the cruise, and then sightseeing in Anchorage, going to Denali National Park, and on to Fairbanks for the last day or two. I won't swear by anything because I've slept since then, but I think our cruise, including air fare, was around $5000 for the two of us.

Wow thanks Terry, that is very good info! And that price range is very reasonable too for what I can only imagine that you get. 12-13 days plus for around $5K? That sounds pretty good to me. We spent around $4K for a week in Mt. Desert Island, Maine, this last spring and it was well worth it. We spent a week in Seattle, mostly combing Pikes Market for fresh seafood, the year before and again probably around $4K or so...the year before that was the Hatch Chile Festival, to include an awesome Hot Air Balloon ride and we spent a lot on that trip; but dang, it sure was fun.

My suggestion is don't go. Being couped up on a ship with a few thousand other folks and breathing their germs doesn't excite me. Rent an RV and get lost in the good ole USA.

Lol ... I'm starting to think along these lines ... :P I'd be royally pissed if my cruise got because somebody who MIGHT have ebola caused my trip to get sidetracked and all I got was $200 and an invitation to come back and try again at a later date ... :nolike:

So, BB, does this mean you are now "leaning" towards the RV option? I've talked to you about that in the past. Just give in to Scott, and I'll be down next month to offer suggestions and advice on choosing a suitable RV.
