i prefer remingtons but it usually comes down to whether you like the safety by the trigger (remington) or on top/back of the receiver (mossy). Never owned a benilli either so cant comment there. I just feel like the quality of an old wingmaster 870 cant be touched for the price. I had a newer 870 express that wouldn’t pull bulk Winchester shells out without a tone of motivation. I had to remove the barrel and polish the chamber with steel wool wrapped bore brush + oil and never had a problem after that. Off topic but I have had many issues with various guns malfunctioning when using Winchester shells when federal and Remington cycled fine.

With the 'cheapy' tinchesters YES, never with AA's or SuperX.

youre right about that, AAs are about as good as it gets, the only steel found in the head is the primer :) but the fact that the universal winchesters cost the same as federal bulk and are that much poorer quality just chaps me.

I wanted a pump shotgun to leave in my farm shop at all times, but didn't like the idea of leaving my Nova or Super Nova out there. I stumbled on a Rock Island Armory M5 one day, ordered one from the local gun shop and have been plenty happy with it. i broke it in shooting clay pigeons one afternoon, cleaned the heck out of it and it's always ready for action whenever a killer armadillo or coon come lurking around. One good thing is, the cost was around the $250.00 range and I don't feel any pain in leaving it in the shop.

I know the original post was about pump guns but for what its worth...I have sold off my pump guns in preference of auto loaders. Id take a nice 1100 over an 870 any day for a HD gun. My current HD gun is a saiga 12...that has had an extensive amount of work done to it to make it as reliable as any shotgun (s12's are notorious for FTE & FTF out of the box).

All my shotguns are old and very reliable. think the favorites were savage stevens pump 12's
Well i do like my 1924 browning 12 gauge auto.
new stuff i do not know...but buddy got a Mossberg auto in the 1985 era and never had any issues with it.
He could bust off 5 rounds to my mid 1940's savage pump gun's 3 rounds..

But when i came time to kill some ducks his mossy missed the bird 3 times (mallard) and my bird was down and only 1 shot.. he was out of ammo (3rounds) and his bird was flying away and i dropped it with the old pump.

So whatever you get make the shot count :)
Sorry i like old stuff and old ways

depends on what you are looking for, but summitgunbroker always has a variety of shotguns. I purchased two hunting mossbergs, that one my son is going to rebarrel to hd length and probably spray into a black gun, out the door for both guns was $250. I have been a loyal customer, but if you don't mind well used, then shottys can be found cheap.

I like either 870's or 500/590's just because parts and accessories are easy to come by. I like older versions of both models as they seem nicer than the newer ones in some cases. I prefer the no loading gate of the 500/590 but if I had to choose one it would come down to pistol grip or no, as the controls on the two favor one way or the other.
