I'm wanting to reload some .223 with varget powder and even at the recommended minimum charge of 25.0 the case seems awfully full. Is this normal? I'm used to using AA2230 or H335(which are ball type) and the case doesn't seem to get that full. Anyway is this a safe load and am I concerned over nothing?

Perfectly normal for a max load. I load hundreds a year with Varget. The powder crunches when pressing in the bullet. If your loading one round at a time, and not using a progressive, you can tap the cases on the bench to make the powder settle a bit.

I've used Varget in .223 and the case is pretty full - I load one at a time and use Dennis' trick of tapping the corner of the case head on my loading table to settle the powder a little.

Good Luck!

Check the load data. If the load amount is followed by a 'c', then they expect it to be a compressed charge. Varget and IMR4895 list their max charges as being compressed for most .223 loads. It is a bit worrisome if you've never encountered it before, though.
