I mean for a birthday, for Christmas (or Qwanza, Hahnukah, or Festivus or whatever it is you do) or whatever? Anniversary? I dunno...

For me, it was a very personal scrapbook my wife put together without my knowledge of memorabilia from my biological father, who was killed by the mafia when I was 4. He had been a decorated war hero in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne before getting caught up in drugs and ending up in a bad place - which cost him his life, ultimately. But enough of that... so she got together with my grandmother across the country and got pictures from childhood up through his military days and his award letter for his bronze star, etc. Put it all together in a military-themed scrapbook that literally shocked me to my core and made me bawl like a baby in front of the whole damn family! Dammit! Anyways, it was the most thoughtful and personal gift I think I've ever received. I was totally dumbfounded at the time she spent and coordinated with my family members to get all this stuff and I knew absolutely zero about it. Of course, I was in residency at the time, so I was working 90 hours a week or more and was never home, so she coulda built an Abrams in the backyard from spare parts and I probably wouldn't have noticed. lol.

Probably the second best was the watch she gave me on the Millennium New Year's Eve which she had inscribed on the back with a marriage proposal - that one was seriously hard to top, but she did it.

I think maybe third is the coffee mug my son had made with his own money with two pictures of him and me, one on either side - they were good pics, but man, that was a personal gift from him that I really loved. :D I think he was 9 at the time. Very cool stuff.

So anyways... what about you guys?

My dad and a few friends chipped in and bought my lifetime hunting license when i turned 30.

My wife bought me a guided hunt many years ago as a birthday present.

My wife gave me a Wilson Combat .45 for my birthday. Unfortunately, after shooting it the next day, she took it back has her personal weapon. Later she did come in and told me I could order what ever I wanted from Wilson Combat. That turned out to be a very expensive birthday gift even if it was a little late. :)

When I was a kid, the very first gun I ever fired was my dad's Smith & Wesson pre model 10 "Victory" .38 Special.

About 7 years ago, my mother called me and said that she and dad were making out their wills and she wanted to know what I wanted.

I told her I wanted dad's .38 Special and her Baby Browning .25ACP.

Well, that Christmas dad surprises me with the revolver and a vintage box of Smith & Wesson ammo. "You may as well have this now instead of when I'm dead" he said.

I looked at mom and she said, "sorry...I still carry my 25 from time to time. You can have it when I'm dead."

The old revolver probably ain't worth a hundred bucks, but it's damn near priceless to me.

Honestly probably the time I get to spend WITH my dad. When he reitired, I shelled out the bucks for a guided fishing trip. (Even though I am an accomplished fisherman and have my own boat) It was nice to be able to relax and enjoy fishing getting to watch him reel in fish and somebody else net them. I took several pictures and one day the pictures and memories will be the "gift" I cherish. I also took him this summer on a guided fishing trip for his birthday.

My father's father passed away before I was born and my mother's father passed away when I was only 4.5 years old. I remember the day like yesterday, but he was an alcoholic and I have only a couple memories of him.

People: Momma Patt, Sister Evann, Lil Stinker named Jonathan (me)
Gift: Super Nintendo

I went to the moon and back when I saw what I got, and I begged and pleaded for my mom to let me open the gift early. She relented and I went bonkers.
